Lack of training in volunteer, non-profit leadership

Second, although alumni are - by default - educated people, very few are educated in volunteer or non-profit leadership. As a result, alumni leaders are often untrained and ill prepared for their roles, armed with little more than good intentions. Several associations do offer regional or network-wide leadership conferences – providing excellent access to information and networking. However, travel expenses and time away from work reduce access for most volunteers. To compound matters, there has been little to no third party information available publically to support or educate club leaders. Minimal specific club management training or guidance added to the mounting challenges faced by alumni volunteers only compounds the frustration that threatens survival.
